The LYFA Senior Boys team played their first match of the year and under the leadership of Coach Serge Mumba. The friendly matches were an exhibition against Eastland FC. Two matches were played by each side’s team A and team B.

Coach Zico was eager to see what the boys were able to bring to the table in a real game situation. Zico was impressed with the boy’s performance while noting that there were a few hiccups in the team that may need correcting before the league opens.

Team B was the first fixture and was an interesting match to watch. The action started just 3 minutes into the match when LYFA’s Sitali Mukubesa’s shot was stopped by the Eastland goal keeper. The tie was broken in the 17th minute when Cletus Mulenga controlled a lobbed pass in from Sitali Mukubesa and chipped the ball over the keeper into an unguarded goal.

The home team were able to even the score just before the stroke of half time when a cross was not cleared and the ball was tapped into the goal. The game was tied even after a penalty was given. The Eastland stopper had no difficulties parrying the shot that was fired straight down the middle of the goal post.

The game strode on and the tie was broken just before the end of the game when Mwewa Moyo fired one past the keeper. The game ended 2-1 in favor of Livingstone Youth Football Academy.

The team-A game started immediately after and was deadlocked throughout the first half. LYFA’s Andrew Kasaila had the first chance of the game as he fired his shot above the crossbar in the 4th minute. Kelvin Malambo got injured in the 40th minute and was replaced by Lawrence Mungala.

The second half began with heavy attacking as a header from a steady corner kick was cleared off the line by the Eastland goalie. Andrew Kasaila was able to break the deadlock in the 65th minute with a beautiful strike from the right wing that went past the keeper at the near post.

The boys fought on and Kasaila secured a brace when he passed the ball into the goal after some lovely one-two passing play with Lawrence Mungala. The Eastland team was unable to get past the LYFA defense as the game ended at 2-0.

Coach Zico is confident in his boys and still thinks there is some polishing up that is needed for the boys to meet his expectations.
